Agreed. AMD is the odd man out. OTOH, if Intel continues to wage a price war with AMD, they are really executing themself as well.

I don't know if they are "executing" themselves... Intel will hurt, but what's going to hurt more in the long run? Is it better to take it on the chin for a couple of quarters and lay a stronger infrastructure, or is it better to try to stay the course in troubled times? It's a tough call, and there is no universally correct answer. It does, however, look like Intel has "returned to its roots" to an extent. They are trying to win using their economies of scale to put pricing pressure on the competition. They are also using their manufacturing expertise to move product launches forward, and in volume! The days of the paper launch are over, and I for one am glad to see it!

Maybe they don't regain pricing power so easily. AMD is used to price wars. Maybe not such a good idea for Intel to wallow in the mud with a pig. lol

AMD's not a pig... nor are they a slouch. They're just poorly managed and lack the resources and know-how to cover as broad a spectrum as Intel. With the COG decrease Intel is going to realize from 300mm, the pricing power argument doesn't hold as much sway as it would have a year or two ago. Some of the very top price-points in the home desktop market may be gone, but they weren't long for this world anyway... hence the desire of Intel to move to 64-bit...
