Just a couple observations. Comparing speed favors the new powermacs.
A few months ago Byte magazine did a comparison between a 132mhz powerpc 604 and a 133mhz pentium. The 604 was 87% faster in benchmark tests, and Byte is a neutral, all platform magazine. With the 604e (which is faster clock cycle for clock cycle than the 604) running at 180mhz on some machines and quickly becoming the standard chip in mac-compatibles, speed favors the mac. There has also been discussion concerning Microsoft software's performance (or lack thereof) on macs. I don't know if MS is devious and insidious enough to try to torpedo performance on their percieved OS competitors machines, but I wouldn't put it past any company that would ship software in their operating systems that scans the customer's hard drives for what applications they have on their hard drives, and then reports that info back via modem. I use both macs and pcs on a daily basis, and my 90mhz 601 seems a little zippier than my 90 mhz pentium.
