"Such things" as justice, human values, principles, truth, of course implies others, and I have offered a few of those one might be led to conjecture were included. Decency. Love. Loyalty. Courage. Selflessness. Kindness. Etc. All them good things.
If I tell someone, Bill, that you have repeatedly mentioned certain things to me, things that reflect poorly on you, I believe they will conclude i am not characterizing you according to my values, but reporting what you have said.
It would be wrong of me to misquote you like that. You would want any words attributed to you to be yours. You would, if you heard about it, say to me, "Why did you misquote me like that?" |
