ERICSSON SWITCHES ITS FOCUS TO CDMA

Aug 21, 2001, (Dagens Industri /FT Information via COMTEX) -- Ericsson, the Swedish
telecommunications and electronics company, is planning to increase its market share to 20
per cent within the area of CDMA mobile telephone systems as the company abandons its
ambition to find a solution for the third generation mobile telephone network. CDMA2000 is a
3G standard and Kurt Hellstrom, Ericsson's managing director, recently revealed that the
company will focus on this area.

Mr Hellstrom said one month ago that interest has increased as a consequence of
Ericsson's success in China together with China Unicom, the Chinese mobile telephone
operator. CDMA2000 is developed by US companies while WCDMA is developed by
Ericsson and its Finnish competitor, Nokia. Ericsson has now given up the focus on WCDMA
and will focus on the US standard which is expected to become dominant world-wide while
Nokia continues to focus on WCDMA.
