Tekelec Announces Local Calling Service Application for Packet Telephony Solution Delivers Class 5 Services for Packet Networks biz.yahoo.com MORRISVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 21, 2001-- Tekelec (Nasdaq: TKLC) today announced the availability of its session initiation protocol (SIP)-based, Class 5 Local Calling Service application for the VXi Media Gateway Controller (MGC).
The application allows carriers to provide end-office voice and data services in a pure packet architecture -- Internet protocol (IP) or asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) -- without investing in legacy, circuit-switched equipment. Tekelec's feature set includes next-generation services such as click-to-dial, Internet call waiting, and unified messaging.
``Our Local Service Application enhances data networks by delivering high-margin, revenue-generating voice services,'' commented Paul Miller, vice president, Packet Telephony. ``These applications give carriers and service providers a competitive advantage by allowing them to bundle local and long-distance services so they can customize their offerings to meet the unique demands of their customer base.''
Tekelec's Local Service Application is targeted to existing carriers expanding service into new territories, greenfield operators building new networks, and service providers and enterprise customers expanding into the voice market. Tekelec's Class 5 solution includes an application server with an open service creation environment to deliver advanced features. The solution includes Tekelec's IP7 Secure Gateway and VXi MGC softswitch. The IP7 Secure Gateway delivers Signaling System 7 (SS7) over IP signaling which enables access to the existing customer base in the public switched telephone network (PSTN). The VXi MGC provides call control within the packet network and interfaces to the voice network. The VXi MGC interoperates with multivendor, multiprotocol application servers and access gateways including integrated access devices, media gateways, and gatekeepers. |
