Tgptndr, Re: "At the last earnings announcement I think Jerry said Fab 25 would be going to all flash. If they have a flash fab at Gresham, could they be planning something else for FAB 25? What else does AMD make?"

I'm thinking that things have changed since the last earnings announcement. Like others who have postulated on this thread, I agree that now that AMD has extra flash capacity due to the Gresham plant, they probably don't need to convert fab25 to flash as well. I don't know if this changes anything with respect to Dresden, but assuming it doesn't, AMD's future processes will still be researched and adopted there first, with the older machinery making its way down to update Austin. Of course, there will probably be cost involved in bringing Austin up to code for newer manufacturing, but that would be minimal compared to the cost of totally refitting the fab for flash, or other products.

To answer your other question, AMD also makes commodity IC parts, but that's a business that has been slowly declining. I doubt AMD has to waste any of their premium fab space to keep this business going.
