If I may butt in, the balanced equation and stoichiometry SEEM to be

MnO2 + 2 KOH + KNO3 ---> K2MnO4 + KNO2 + H2O
(86.94g) (112.22g) (101.11g) (197.1g)
Weight for weight, the ratio of MnO2 : KOH : KNO3 is 10 : 12.9 : 11.6

I suppose you use 3x the amount of KNO3 (to ensure you get enough oxygen from the KNO3 for the reaction) because you are doing this in an open container and it might dangerous to do the reaction in a closed system?

By the way, when this reaction is carried out make sure the MnO2 is free of carbon or that carbon-black is not mistaken for MnO2 nor icing sugar for powdered KNO3. Otherwise you will be in for something you won't easily forget!!!
