| Believe it or not, they go way back to 1978, when I replied to an ad in the Aquarian (a local NJ paper for young progressive types) when they were looking for someone to help them out moving and setting up their sound equipment. Their original name was Double Cross back then.... So I called the number in the ad up, and the person on the other end was interested in me after I told him I had worked with some of New Jersey's top bands in the early to mid-1970's, but he then asked me if I would mind working with an all-female band. (that info was not in the ad) No, I replied in my best calm and cool voice, and then after hanging up, I wondered what the hell I was getting myself into! <g> There were not many all-female rock bands around in 1978.... To make a long story short, I went to a NJ club to see what they were all about, and everyone thought I was their manager! I was used to this though, because when hanging out with the Orphans (a top NJ rock band in 1971/72, a lot of the chicks would always presume I was the manager.... (must be the way I look and act or something) <g> So after meeting the band I said to JoAnne the bass player: Well, I guess I'm your new roady! And then she said something which turned out to be very prophetic, which was: Oh no, you are much more than that! (then cupid's arrow struck my heart) <g> And JoAnne and I became friends for awhile. After that, cupid's arrow got me again as I had a longer term relationship with their old drummer Marilyn. But the longest relationship of all that evolved from those fun days was meeting the sister of the lead guitar player, and we have been together for almost 23 years!!! Man, do I feel like an old man now! <sad grin> So while you fantasize, I'll try to remember what happened before I get too senile! LOL! |
