Close On the surface, the Fed did everything people expected: 1) a 25 bp ease for the federal funds rate to 3.75%; 2) Board of Governors ease discount rate by 25 bp to 3.25%; 3) easing bias maintained. The market steadily sold off as it digested the text of the Fed announcement. The Fed said that business profits and capital spending continue to weaken. Briefing.com sees this as a concern of more job cuts around the corner. And with job cuts, consumers become more afraid of losing their jobs so they tighten their belts.
