TELS Corporation Announces Results of Annual Meeting
SOUTH JORDAN, Utah, June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Stephen M. Nelson, President of TELS Corporation (Nasdaq:TELS), announced today that Mr. Willard H. Gardner, Mr. Stephen M. Nelson, and Dr. Ming-Tzong Chen were all reelected at TELS' 1997 Annual Meeting held Monday, June 2nd. The company's officers, John L. Gunter, CEO, Stephen M. Nelson, President and Treasurer, R. James Taylor, Executive Vice President, and Willard H. Gardner, Corporate Secretary were also re-appointed.
Mr. Willard H. Gardner, a Director since 1984, brings to TELS Corporation a vast array of experience in the computer technology industry including a long career with Brigham Young University where he served in various capacities, two of which were Executive Director of Information System Services and Associate Professor of Computer Science. Mr. Gardner was a founding member of the Board of Trustees of both the Utah Technology Finance Corporation and the Utah Information Technology Association as well as serving in the Utah State Legislature from 1973 to 1985. In 1989, Mr. Gardner took on the additional responsibility of serving as TELS Corporation's Corporate Secretary.
Mr. Stephen M. Nelson has been involved with TELS Corporation since 1982 and was appointed as a Director in 1991. He has served in several positions including Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Vice President of Finance, Senior Executive Vice President, and in 1996, he was appointed President and Treasurer. Mr. Nelson is a graduate of the University of Utah, a CPA, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants, and the Institute of Management Accountants where he served as President from 1989 through 1990.
Dr. Ming-Tzong Chen was appointed as a Director in 1995 to fill a vacancy on the Board of Directors. Dr. Chen received his Doctorate in Physics from Brigham Young University. He has been a founder of several companies; Pro Sports USA Co., Chateau Research, Inc., Chen's International Corporation, and Galaxy International Corp. In 1979, under the management of Dr. Chen, Galaxy obtained a major contract with the Taiwan Power Company which resulted in Galaxy becoming the first firm to export coal from the western U.S. to Taiwan.
