Semotus Increases Market Share in Beverage and Vending Market
Auto Tech Link Runs Seamlessly and Cost Effectively on RedHat Linux OS
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 22, 2001--Semotus Solutions (AMEX:DLK - news; formerly Datalink.net), a market-leading wireless application service provider (w-ASP) and infrastructure architect, today announced the first installation of RedHat Linux, the premier open-source operating system, at Nor-Cal Beverage Company.
Application Design Associates (ADA), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Semotus Solutions, recommended the installation of RedHat Linux OS as the ideal operating system for smaller operations to implement. With features such as stability, low cost, and an excellent support system, RedHat has become the preferred Unix system for smaller-scaled businesses.
``We are very excited to be promoting the RedHat Linux platform and its compatibility with our Auto Tech Link application,'' said Nita Rosenblum, director of Research and Development at ADA. ``The cost to clients when implementing RedHat is considerably reduced in comparison to other operating systems because the license itself is free. This gives us the opportunity to offer our products and services to smaller operations, a segment of the beverage and vending market that we previously have not targeted.''
This new initiative underlines ADA's commitment to continually expand capabilities and product offerings and to ensure the seamless integration and adoption of ADA applications. This new market niche represents 70-80% of the ownership of the Franchise Bottler Operations. Expansion into this smaller operations beverage and vending market indicates a considerable increase in both market share and sales opportunities as well as significant revenue gains.
Nor-Cal Beverage, located in Sacramento, Calif., is one of ADA's long-standing clients. With the implementation of the latest version of Auto Tech Link, ADA's field service handheld application, Nor-Cal's needs for a new operating system was apparent. Operating on an SCO UNIX System, Nor-Cal did not have the infrastructure in place to support Auto Tech Link's advanced capabilities.
RedHat Linux has millions of users, and is the fastest-growing operating system for servers. It has won the ``Product of the Year'' award from InfoWorld for four consecutive years.
