The mentality in Washington that the Social Security "surplus" should be "saved" rivals the monetary and protectionist ignorance that prevailed in the 1920's, and turned a severe recession into the Great Depression. Unless that money is returned to the private sector for capital formation, the danger of a new deflationary panic, or even a long term depression, will become a reality.

It took decades and a major war to even begin to learn the harsh lessons of the Great Depression. Liberal demagoguery threatens to make the current situation equally as bad. And Social Security and Medicare will be destroyed in the resulting economic catastrophe...
