AMD's primary problem at the moment may be the economic cyclical downturn. Some believe there exists a 4 year semiconductor cycle, which, if true suggests another 6 to 12 months before discernible turnaround signs appear. AMD over the past couple of yeaars has consolidated as opposed to diversifying which strategy, during the last upcycle, proved very profitable...Perhaps the best course of action for AMD is to continue pumping out a superior price/performance product lineup, which virtually assures continued market growth, while riding out the remainder of this downcycle...Not a time for diversification imo, but a time for increasing focus on growing market share in both flash and microprocessors...By so doing, when the semi turnaround occurs, AMD will be positioned to reap profits that will dwarf those of the last two years!

Niceguy, once again Intel is threatening to slash prices...see the link below that shows my posting on the classic thread. Please tell me how AMD will grow market share when Intel slashes prices every time AMD turns around?

Intel is sitting on $9 billion and has lines of credit up the wazoo...they can play this game for ever.
