Dan I think your still too focused on SOI being a home run or a strikeout. If SOI gives a small advantage it might be enough to help AMD get a bit of market share and may even help ASPs a bit when things recover but it won't be enough to mess Intel up.

If SOI gives an enormous advantage (unlikely in my opinion) then Intel will be hurt by AMD having it but AMD wont have the capacity to take over the market. Before AMD could build that much capacity Intel could start makeing some moves to SOI. It would be difficult and expensive for Intel but the scenarios of Intel running out of cash or going to less the 50% market share are pretty much not in the cards IMO.
