I think the drug makers should refuse to sell any drugs to Brazil until they reverse their position. If they won't pay their fair share of development costs, they don't deserve to have the drugs. Once they set in place the principle that they can break drug patents with impugnity, there is no likelihood that they will stop.

Of course, I speak as a Merck shareholder and a beneficiary of good health insurance. I expect I might think differently were I a poor Brazilian infected with AIDS.

Or maybe I wouldn't. Matter of principle, I suppose.
