Qi BaiShi is a much revered Chinese painter who had a long life coming out of poor peasant family and lived to a ripe old age of 96 in 1957. This is a self portrait of himself at 80- holding a peach- a special peach. The peach is a symbol of longevity. Depictions of Taoist immortals often show them holding a peach. It was the peach that gave immortality to the Immortals and was the elixir of life to the Daoists.
It is also a symbol for joy, marriage and spring. The peach tree of the Gods was said to blossom once every 3000 years and the fruit of eternal life took another 3000 years to ripen.
The large letters on the right hand column inside the picture
is the title something like The Peach Convention or Ceremony and the middle column is about the special peach given or presented after waiting 3000 years or three times that by the primordal goddess (couldnt name her)overall and becoming acquiring special position in the belief ( maybe holy person) and the left column is a short poem about using time but needs clarifying- The outside column right and top area 2-3 ideagrams is the authors name BaiShi means white stone or mountain. This from several people I know. The calligraphy is stylized so one lady could not make it out but knew of him and his beliefs which lead me to 'Frank' a holy man of the local temple who had me repeat mantras holding my hands in lotus flower position and repeating
Om Ava Lo Kit Ti Sa Va Hum for and as more of his help(which is just another lesson). If said 1080 times the power of the mantra
will come from within for happiness and wealth-(especially after 2-3 years)- there is another mantra if you are not western but rather asian:
Om Ma MaNee ba me hum
which means the same thing.

Qi BaiShi is famous for his shrimp, fish and crab paintings and wrote 300 poems, and made seals and woodworking
