without God, all of the things that we care about are futile, and in that sense, the world is meaningless...

I've no real interest in debating it again, but that point is debatable enough to deserve an "IMO".

IMO, of course.

Just for reference:

fu·tile (fytl, fytl) adj.

1. Having no useful result.
2. Trifling and frivolous; idle: the futile years after her artistic peak.

Since utility and frivolousness both lie in the eye of the beholder, it follows that futility lies also in the eye of the beholder. Certainly I acknowledge that a world without God might seem inutile and frivolous to some, but it seems pretty clear that it does not seem that way to all. There is a world of difference between "all of the things that we care about are futile without God" and "some feel that all of the things they care about would be futile without God". It depends largely on what an individual cares about. That world of difference needs, I think, to be acknowledged.
