>>Does anyone else think that Shark is in a position to kill Zip and possibly Jaz products? Particulary it has a great chance of building a market share with laptops, where competition from Iomega won't exist for the next 6 months. Personally, if I were making a buying decision today, I would rather buy Shark than Zip. It's too bad that I've already bought 2 Zip drives and a bunch of disks in the last few months.<<

Michael -

I don't think Shark will "kill" either Zip or Jaz. It will certainly take some sales away, though, because it's a great looking product and it's being marketed well.

However, many people will still opt to buy Zip because they want to be able to exchange files with others, and/or for the much lower price. And I doubt that too many people would buy Shark over Jaz because the prices are close and the Jaz offers four times the storage. Moreover, the reliability question hasn't been answered yet where Shark is concerned.

The removable storage market is growing fast, now that Iomega has blown it wide open. There will be other players, and plenty of customers.

BTW, I'm sure you can find buyers for used Zip drives and disks, if you really want the Shark.
