Yup. AMD generally does an SRAM chip, and then they start on processors. For the copper process, AMD did a K-6 in copper during 1999. Tbirds were done early enough that they were doing dog and pony demos in February of 2000. As far as the production time, the figures I have seen is 10-13 weeks, not around 8 as you say.

Around the time of the Q2 CC, AMD was claiming good results on the SOI SRAMs they were running, so you missed that one by a year. So it is quite likely that AMD has already started the run on the processors, and may even have packaged chips. Since AMD has rented a room close to where Intel is holding IDF, maybe we will see one trotted out...
