The mainstream press decided early on to parrot the government's line; that Koresh was not only a drug dealer but a sexual abuser of children. They've been parroting the government line ever since. It isn't their job to inform, their job is to withhold information.

We should give credit to Vanity Fair magazine, who allowed Gore Vidal to write an article about his experiences with the media and government during his correspondence with McVeigh and afterward. He cites instance after instance of the government acting illegally and concludes that they shredded the 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, and 14th Amendments to the Constitution. They began the investigation with an outcome already in mind. They didn't pursue any leads that would have deviated from the prepared script. Jurors in the Terry Nichols trial were astounded that the FBI didn't follow through on very credible leads that at least 5 guys were involved in building the bomb. When the spokeswoman of the jury spoke about it on TV, she received bomb threats. After a jury found the 11 surviving Branch Davidians innocent of conspiracy to commit murder, the judge sentenced them up to 40 years on lesser charges. One disgusted juror said, "The wrong people were on trial."
