Nice post! I usually try to follow your third approach, modified slightly. I have a portfolio of about 20 stocks. Inevitably, at least one of the stocks is in a correction mode or out of favor at any given time. That is the stock I put my regular "dollar cost averaging" contribution into. A year later, that stock will become slightly overvalued and a different one will be out of favor, so I switch my regular investments into the second, undervalued stock. I found that this approach works great in a bull market, at least for me.
