Nadine -

When I consider that 30% of the workforce is paid less than $7 an hour, I wonder how parents are supposed to inculcate their values in their children when they are working all hours to keep a roof over their heads. Are "family values" compatible with very low wages?

If you have an opinion on the $7 per hour wage rate, you must also have an opinion on how much these workers are worth to their employer. Do you think their employer would allow you to hire them away for $100 an hour? $1000 an hour? Even if they could not be replaced? What would these workers be paid if their employer were to shut down? If the workers continue to work for $7 an hour, is this because they don't realize that other employers exist? Or are you saying that all of the millions of employers are involved in a tremendous conspiracy to only pay $7 an hour to workers who must be worth at least $10 or $15 an hour?

Regards, Don

PS - Economics is not only the primary organizing principle of society, necessary for any group larger than a tribe, and more fundamental than government, but it is also a social science.
