I love Rumi when I am in my spiritual- contemplative- I am above all earthly things mood, but I can understand your reaction. And I don't think I would find him discuss-able.

Like you, I have trouble listening. I am a READER, but I will try listening if that is a requirement of the thread. If I listen while I walk, it sometimes sinks in.

The Miller I have already read, and just finished her "For Love" while on vacation on the recommendation of a friend. Since I can't remember what it was about, it seems I wasn't too impressed. Or maybe I was indulging in too many pina coladas. I also read Vinegar Hill (Ansey)which I DO remember-- very hard read emotionally, but I thought well-done- though X wouldn't like it as it's full of depressing abuse stuff. Best vacation read was Crazy Ladies by Michale Lee West reminiscent of YaYa Sisterhood. Am in the middle of Hunt Club (Bret Lott who did Jewel). As you can see, I read light.

I never read Snow Falling though it's in one of my stacks. A friend's daughter was taking a required writing course in college and was not doing well so she asked me to proof her paper on the Guterson. Agh. She told everything about the plot (and nothing about the BOOK). It completely put me off.

Henry James is dense, but I like him; Joyce I'm ashamed to say I've never read. Tried Ulysses and fell on my face.
