to the thread
since there have been some questions recently about why am i not posting here, and because this thread has meant so much to me for the last three+ years, i will attempt to briefly respond.
the biggest reason is burn out. this place took up an incredible amount of my time and energy. lots of important things were not getting done because of the time i spent here immersed in computer learning.
the motivating factor, shall i say the catalyst, to depart the thread is much touchier. weighing the good that takes place here against the bad that would be generated by me delving into the specifics has been at the heart of my dilemma. the way i see it, no good would come from me identifying anyone or anything as a reason for leaving. it's best to say that the matter is personal and for the overall welfare of this very cool thread, i refuse to dig up and cite specifics.
as i have commented here on numerous occasions, i have merely been a keeper of the flame on the cl thread. anyone with a sincere desire to learn and to help others can do what i did. certainly, knowing all the answers is NOT a requisite for holding down the position of computer learning thread head. i am living testimony to that!
yes, i would like to 'pass the torch', as joe noted here yesterday. i think someone else would be good for the thread. my only departing request along that line will be that the new person please embrace the concept of watching out for the little guy. we all have plenty of "dumb" questions in us. we just need a place where we can ask them!
the very last thing i'd like to see is public replies to this post. in fact, if you have read what i have written, you'll see that my wish is to not disrupt the thread. i would like very, very much for this topic to be put to rest right now. please use pm's if you wish, but my purpose in posting this is to end speculation.
