Hi Elmatador, <<Abracadabras … earthquakes ... different magnitudes>>
Ok, I will go with this scheme in discussion of abracadabras on this thread. I agree that we keep the scale metrics simple as you suggested, but add that when ‘valuing’ the aba, and DD-ing the cadabras, we consider not only the magnitude of the idea (scale of Wow) but also the impact of the financials (scale of Wow$Wow).
<<Third Generation mobile 3G/UMTS had -last August with the auction rage- an impact of 7 in my Richter Scale. Today I would say it reaches maximum 3>>
My explanation per our metrics would be, the G3 is 7 on the scale of Wow, but if the licensing cost too much, and consumer demand is vague, it then is a 2 on the scale of Wow$Wow, resulting in an average magnitude of 4.5, adjusting for the fact that competitive and deal heat and CNBC hype may have inflated the magnitude, thus apply a 50% adjustment to our assessment, resulting in a magnitude of 2.25.
So, bottom line, let’s go with, unless and until other thread-folks have some good suggestions for amending same: M=1 to 3: Recorded on local seismographs, but generally not felt i.e. making of industrial grade diamonds, fuzzy dice
M=3 to 4: Often felt, no damage i.e. automatic garage door opener
M=5: Felt widely, slight damage near epicenter i.e. shampoo
M=6: Damage to poorly constructed buildings and other structures within 10's km i.e. air conditioner
M=7: "Major" earthquake, causes serious damage up to ~100 km (recent Taiwan, Turkey, Kobe, Japan, and California earthquakes). i.e. elevator
M=8: "Great" earthquake, great destruction, loss of life over several 100 km (1906 San Francisco, 1949 Queen Charlotte Islands) . i.e. car, train, airplane, anti-cancer drug
M=9: Rare great earthquake, major damage over a large region over 1000 km (Chile 1960, Alaska 1964, and west coast of British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, 1700). i.e. television, telephone, anti-common cold drug
