If you're going to use AOL you have no need for Dellnet. If you ever want to change your mind make sure during the install of AOL that you do not give them permission (there's was a checkmark somewhere during the install of 5.0) to be the default internet provider on your computer. I made that mistake about a year ago and had to format two computers and start back from scratch. You may not run into this problem if the newest version has corrected it.

As far as recovering a few things from your "dead" computer, I doubt if it would be worth the trouble or expense of retrieving the data. If the disk can be accessed with dos your favs and filing cabinet could be put on a floppy and transferred...I think!

I would not hesitate to use any of the microsoft programs but I wouldn't use them if I had something I already used and was familiar with.. They made the operating system so they "should" work. Be careful installing any older programs on your new computer until you are sure they are compatible with your new operating system. If your new system is WindowsMe or Windows 2000 some of them probably will not work.
