I am not sure civility IS style with out substance. Is that what you are trying to say? I reflected a bit on Solon's comment. I'm not sure, either, what he had in mind. I remember once upon a time thinking that manners were superficial and stupid. All form, no substance. I rebelled a lot against manners in my rebellious years. I would have said the same thing about civility. I'm not sure I still wouldn't. And I've always been a critic of style over substance. One of my mantras at the office.
