TC:

Well, I've found one file hosts and it only had one line in it which may have provided a clue. Deleting it and renaming the file hostsbak however have not helped. Things are running a little better now that I've gone through pcpitstop however the time applet says that all my activex controls are okay. Still not able to link to bigcharts.

I don't know if this is relevent, but the one line in that file referred to wingate 2.1. Before I got cable, I had this linked to another old computer and so they used my existing ethernet card for the cable modem and I used to use wingate to handle the "network". Although I deleted the wingate start engine from my startup file, I discovered that it started anyway and that was why I was getting a lot of alerts on Zonealarm. Now when I start up the computer I stop the wingate engine running first and then go on to all the other things.

Any more suggestions?

Thanks

Bob
