My point was that "civility" is a method of interaction. It is removed from the "substance" that defines the actual engagement as either good, bad, or indifferent. In other words, you can smile while sticking someone with a knife. You can be very cordial about it. Civility is a characteristic of an interaction. It is not necessarily either the intent OR the effect.

I am NOT disparaging civility or cordiality. But some recent phoney behaviour on another thread (and I don't mean anyone here), prompted me to a (perhaps) snide comment.
