I can see where that thread might appear overwhelming right now. There are people convening there from several threads and it's a wild bunch. I assure you they are very, very open and kind, and would love you, but finding the literary posts might be confusing.

So- I am going to pick something and hope that there are a couple more here besides thee and me as I think this could be a controversial discussion between men and women. I've read several of the suggested books and plays now, and what I've noticed is that they are written from the Other's frame of reference as The Stranger was. This allows us to either sympathize or not- but hopefully from an expanded perspective.

The Yellow Wallpaper is particularly appropriate for today because it deals with postpartum depression. It was written in 1891 by CHarlotte Perkins Gilman and is based on her own experience with the treatment of depression at that time.

Women have had to fight the stigma of their sex for generations. Judging from some comments I've seen on SI this week, we still have a ways to go.

There's a recording online of this story apparently done as a play-- I haven't listened to it yet, but plan to. It takes 28 minutes.

I;m not going to worry bout voting on this, or seeing who wants to do it. Here it is and as it's very short, a week should be plenty of time to get and read it, or just listen to the play.

I hope you all will join me.
