Everybody here seems to think that software DVD will not do a good job of decoding. I saw the Zoran/Compcore SoftDVD demo at PC Expo and was very impressed. Granted the demo was on a 233Mz Pentium II PC, but it looked as good as CUBE's Zivia demo. With Pentium II prices where they are today it will not take long for these machines to be the standard and therefore only require software decoding. I think CUBE has already stated that they expected PC DVD to be software based due to increasingly more powerfull microprocessors and hence their focus on the consumer DVD market. I still can't believe Hollywood would allow CSS to be software based (teen hackers could probably crack code), and therefore have my fingers crossed it will get killed. If the all software solution survives, CUBE will be out of the PC business in 1-2 years, IMO. If software does'nt survive what other low cost solutions could compete with Zivia or other hardware solutions? Hybrid hardware/software?

I'm a CUBE investor because of communications cabilities (i.e,Avia/Divi/etc.)but it would sure be nice to grab a nice part of this PC/Consumer DVD market.

Good luck to all.
