Thanks everyone for the b-day well wishes. Not sure yet how wild I will be, but I appreciate any encouragement in that direction. We are heading to Kauai for 10 days this Friday. E, I think the more popular idea to contrast transcendence amounts to a domestication of transcendence, which is really a lot less about deity per se. Transcendence, to me, implies more knowledge, power, and goodness as necessary qualities of any God deserving of attention. A pretty good read is "Letter to a man in the Fire" for an attempt at transcendence questions. The author is a Duke literature prof, I think. Sorry for a quickie response here on a big topic, but I am off to do a little physical reclamation while I still can (play basketball with other old farts). But hey, I am at the point where I take a quickie any chance I get, easy virtue and ambition taking on hard goals notwithstanding.
