At the end of WWI, the US wanted to give Germany a reasonable, decent peace treaty. The Brits and frogs wanted revenge and punishment. The result was Versaille and reparations- -"we'll squeeze them till the pips squeak", in a famous phrase (from a British PM, I believe). The result was Adolph Hitler and WWII. The world was more fortunate after WWII: the US got to dictate the peace terms. The result was the Marshall Plan and a prosperous, democratic, peaceful, and united Western Europe. All those Europeans who are now so viciously throwing bombast at the United States owe the fact that they can do so in such comfort and such lack of fear of the Geheimnes Staats Polizei to their target, the United States. Need I say more?
