jc, "That's not quite true. A really well balanced 10 stage pipe will outrun a really horrible balanced 80 stage pipe." Of course, "always" is a strong word. However, I assumed that qualifications of CPU architects at Intel are not so terrible as one would guess from your statement. More, the whole reason for the pipeline breaking implies balancing.
