Microsoft To Delay Xbox Release Until Feb
Monday, August 27, 2001
TOKYO (Nikkei)--Microsoft Corp. announced Monday it will release its Xbox game console in Japan on Feb. 22, instead of this year as originally planned.

The company said the move will give it time to increase its game software lineup for the Japanese market. But some analysts say the delay is due to production problems.

Xbox will be released in North America on Nov. 8 as scheduled.

The suggested retail price for Japan has yet to be determined.

With the delay of the Xbox release, the PlayStation2 console of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. and the Nintendo GameCube machine of Nintendo Co. (7974), to be released on Sept. 14, will compete in the domestic market in the year-end shopping season.
