Stefan, I've found that yearly events which have influenced the market tend to be anticipated in future markets as cyclical events.. which will repeat themselves until proven false. The October crash syndrome is one such recurring event. The energy/oil sector has its own yearly cycle with price spiking events through out its history. Refer to this page:http://www.swiftenergy.com/Sfy/Industry/Articles/HistO&G/oilpricehist.htm

Its interesting to note on the chart just how severe the 80's oil price problem was. Reading the news this morning I see Iraq shot down a US unmanned spy plane, and the NYTimes has a lengthy article on how Saudi Arabia's traditional / state oil supported structure is struggling with population increases and turmoil.

The price pop this last winter will be anticipated, though it would probably not recur in the same way.. just as October crashes don't. Yet a fox or dog always revisits the hen house it was successful in raiding.
