eco, "we'll see this release answered with a faster performing AMD part."

It is not going to happen. Due to some Athlon platform
deficiencies, and because of _higher_ IPC of Athlons,
the whole AMD platform performance grows slower with
core frequency than P4 systems. Once behind, Athlon
will fall further and further behind. Living example:
multimedia and Quake gaming. Same will happen to
office productivity eventually, since currently they
are at parity. AMD needs to understand this, and do
something - FSB to 166MHz, dual DDR, whatever.
Unfortunately, they didn't get it first time, and
I'm afraid the things will remain the same.
Simply faster core will not solve
the performance issue.
