Albert, Re: "re: 15% of their processors at 1.5GHz some of the intel launches were in fraction of a percent..."
If you are talking about last year's paper launches, then yes, I agree. The 1.13GHz launch was pathetic, to say the least. But every Intel release in 2001 has had products show up relatively soon in the channel, and if not, at least in the product lines of major OEMs. If you believe that Intel sells Dell, Gateway, Compaq, HP, and IBM all together a fraction of a percent on their new releases, then you need to take a second look at reality. All these OEMs buy in volume, even for the upper bin products. This may not mean 15%, but 5% does not sound unreasonable.
Plus, the 15% number was off the top of my head just to use as an example. Theories that AMD is aiming to sell mostly high-bin parts to maximize ASPs sounds reasonable to me. But in order to do that, they can't make the same low-bin launches that Intel can make, since Intel can charge a large premium for their highest bin, while AMD's highest bin price even falls below Intel's lowest bin price.
