I'm not offended. At least not very much. I really think it's a mistake to view parenthood as "preferable" because that encourages too many ill suited people to do it. People who would make good parents will do it whether or not there's a preferred status. There's no need to encourage marginal people to participate. We just need to be careful not to penalize the good parents who are raising children.
