homestake didn't really take off until the summer of 1932 after the bulk of the deflation had run it's course. there are other unique factors as well but i won't detail them here.

if you think today's market is at THE bottom like in 1932 gold stocks might be a wise choice. i'm not suggesting that gold will underperform the broad markets over the next decade, i am merely suggesting that they both might not be done going down. gold may go down less than stocks, but that doesn't mean it can't go down.

what if we are at the point in the cycle where it's only 1931?
