If one buys at 8 or 10 - it won't matter at 27 - the torment of having not been perfect at 5 will have been long forgotten.

That's fine. But how long is the average investor in that particular stock willing to wait for that to happen? At an annualized 19% growth in price (which is no mean achievement, believe me) from the bottom, it is going to take close to 10 YEARS to get to 27...

But, as of today, is the average investor in this particular stock ready to wait that long? I would say, "Certainly not!". Ironically, this will only ensure that it will take even longer to get there. Having high expectations is a surefire way of ensuring low returns.

And I am talking only about those who bought it at the absolute bottom, mind you. Those who bought it at 8 will see slightly more than three-fold appreciation in 10 years. Then, there are those who bought this at much higher levels and are waiting to break-even. And break-even selling can retard a stock's progress for a long, long time.
