Six Continents Hotels Selects Elastic Networks' EtherLoop Technology as Broadband Infrastructure Standard for Hotel Properties Innovative technology to underpin broadband services over existing telephone wiring in as many as half a million hotel rooms
ATLANTA, Aug 28, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Six Continents Hotels announced today that it has selected Elastic Networks' (NASDAQ: ELAS) EtherLoop(TM) technology as its standard for deployment of IP-based multi-media services to its hotel and resort properties.
Under the agreement, service providers offering broadband services to Six Continents Hotels will be strongly recommended to utilize Elastic Networks' products and technology to enable service.
Elastic Networks' patented EtherLoop technology enables the delivery of high-speed Internet, broadcast video, video-on-demand and other IP-based multi-media services over existing copper phone lines. Properties will be equipped to offer their guests these services in addition to the traditional dial tone services provided by the hotel telephone systems.
"Our decision required a focus on reliable delivery of quality service and ease of installation while leveraging the existing copper infrastructure in our hotel properties. We considered several technologies, including Ethernet over VDSL, xDSL, and HPNA. EtherLoop was the clear choice. It has worked wonderfully in all previous deployments at Six Continents properties, including locations where other technologies failed," said Gustaaf Schrils, vice president of Americas information technology for Six Continents Hotels.
"We are pleased to have been selected by Six Continents Hotels as its technology for the deployment of broadband services over twisted pair in their hotel and resort properties," said Guy Gill, president and CEO of Elastic Networks. "Six Continents Hotels is the premier hotelier providing guest services across the globe. As their broadband technology supplier, Elastic Networks will be enabling top-quality high-speed services for some of the world's most sophisticated business and vacation travelers."
"We see robust growth in broadband deployment in hotel properties over the next four years," states Amy Helland, industry analyst for Cahners In-Stat Group. "This type of service has become an expected amenity for business travelers in particular, and Six Continents Hotels has selected a technology that offers the important benefit of delivering broadband to their guests with minimal disruption to the properties' existing telecommunications infrastructure."
