Well that depends on your definition of personal freedom...doesn't it ? Not all counries there are like Soudi Arabia. Is Canada like US ? But when I was growing in Asia, I didn't know there was any difference in policies and stuff between Canada and US. Hell, I thought ALL western countries were the same....its called sweeping generalisation...and its was wrong...

What I am trying to say is that its a myth that personal freedom is restricted in UAE <and a lot of other places in the region>. Except liquor, which cannot be consumed in open places, everything normal is permissible....I would even think they'd look the other way if the doggie has the urge to go upto the fire hydrant...as long as its once in a while ! <g>

Its just a case of people exaggerating....
