Ali, feel free to curse me away, but I think you are confusing process superiority with AMD's ability to tweak process settings at the expense of yields. Intel has many manufacturing facilities, and the only way to micro-manage them is to Copy Exactly, and that causes them to miss opportunities to tweak their systems to peak performance, and instead they have to wait for new process generations to implement newer techniques. AMD, on the other hand, can afford to fall short of their maximum volumes in order to tweak their process. Even if they get lower yields, they can justify it, and I think that's what they've been able to do back in the days of K6 that you recall.
