Many more people and families are impacted by those diseases than by AIDS.


There are any number of criteria for choosing. Numbers of afflicted, as you argue, is one. Jorg raised the question of the proper role of government, under which framework contagious diseases would have a higher priority. There has also been some argument about which sufferers are more deserving. If AIDS is self inflicted, so is much of heart disease, stroke, and cancer.

I don't presume to know the best way to choose. They are all reasonable arguments. Perhaps that's why we spread the money around as blow the political winds.
