Conspiracies are indeed everywhere. Conspiracy just means any kind of orchestrated secret scheme or effort by any group to pull off some kind of deal or manipulation helpful to themselves but detrimental to others. Conspiracies are secret because they're usually unethical in some way. So they are covered-up by secrecy, lies, bribes, whatever.
In many forms, conspiracies happen all the time in the markets, business, government, politics and elsewhere. Few institutions don't conspire once in awhile. It is often the quickest way for any group to get ahead in the world. Conspiracies are usually present where once group, desperate for power or wealth, feels it needs to cheat to get ahead. Even if the group doesn't need to cheat sometimes it does anyway. Example Watergate where Nixon was probably going to beat McGovern anyway.

Most conspiracies we never find out about because they stay secret. We rely on the press, investigations or whistle-blowers to un-earth the ones they can. Then usually the culprits are punished in some way.

Every major corporation, government and politician uses them from time to time, especially when they're not under close scrutiny and think they can get away with it. Conspiracies are pure Machiavellian, and powerful tools.

What irks me about Bush-Cheney's conspiracies is that they're at the expense of Democracy, OUR money and the future of our natural resources. These conspiracies are linked but they should be obvious to anything watching closely. Not to say the other side doesn't use conpiracies too but Bush-Cheney just seem to utilize them more, in bigger ways, with more lies/cover-up effort and to greater detrimental effect.

The one big conspiracy I am concerned about, as you know, is the June 2000 - June 2001 Energy Cartel conspiracy which jacked up world energy prices, gouged California in particular, attempts still to scare us into letting them overturn environmental protection, robbed our surplus and tax cuts and put Bush in office in the first place. How many votes in Florida did Bush get because they believed him when he and Cheney said they were best qualified to "fix" the problem which their people in fact created?
And how did they fix them? By supporting increased gouging once they took office and fanning the flames.

If all that gouging wasn't a big orchestrated conspiracy (Bushes, Cheney, OPEC, Gulf War debt, Big Oil, Big NG, Big Power unified and in cooperation with each other) then gee weren't they just lucky. And wasn't it a coincidence it all stopped the week Jeffords switched parties? Sorry but I don't believe in such coincidences, particularly when the guilty parties work overtime to cover up, lie about it, refuse to hand over record to congress etc.

News today, natural gas supplies at all-time glut. And so is electrical power. Only six months ago Bush-Cheney cronies jacked up the prices 400% and more telling us there was a terrible supply shortage. That we needed limitedless new supplies and 1900 new power plants. Also that they were the ones we could trust (and pay tens of billions to) to get the job done. Yeah right. They are rebuffed a bit for now but they will try and keep trying so long as they hold their trump card, two oilmen in the White House who have no scruples about helping their fat cat buddies. And why shouldn't they? It's Big Energy which put those too in power to begin with, funded their lavish campaigns and gave them much of their power. In Texas that may be acceptable behavior because Big Energy can do no wrong down there, but everywhere else we call it unethical and indeed criminal. And yes, a massive conspiracy to defraud and rob us as a nation at the expense of our environment and our democracy.

If it hadn't happened Gore would be President, half our surplus would still be there, tax cuts would actually be a net gain for Americans and our environment would be relatively safe from plundering herds of Big Energy hogs moving in at tax-payers expense.

What can we do now? Support the GOA, Davis and Leiberman investigations into energy abuses, vote out anyone who supported B-C's energy schemes, conserve energy youself and always push for more efficiency and cleaner burning energy sources. Never believe them when tyhey tell you pollution creates jobs. It doesn't It just kills the Golden Goose.
