tc, many thanks. Just rushing out to a tenants' meeting (which will probably go on longer than a good overheated squabble between SIers), but I'll do it all! (except maybe for the problem of scandisk looping-oh I have an ornery computer). I was beginning to suspect that Explorer meant Windows Explorer :) Glad to get a confirm on the possibility of re-installing Windows on top of the current 98. i mean, i was thinking of trying that, but probably wouldn't have if it hadn't been suggested in your post.
