Actually, I had written a whole paragraph about that but deleted it after deciding it was inflammatory, so I am grateful to you, a male, for saying it.
We ARE different! Maybe I phrased it incorrectly- I have no problem with "differences"-- of course there are differences, most of them are interesting and nice. And many are based on reality, and some we even encourage and emphasize because I truly believe we are hardwired to do so.
Perhaps I should have said that I was amazed that women were viewed as so inferior, as weak, as stupid, so ineffectual- what is the female equivalent of castrated?- Really, it's as if we were not even the same species. It is more what X said about power. To say that women can't "handle mental activity" isn't about truth, it's about control. And to blame negative or opposing opinions to one;s own on these differences rather than intelligent thought is the height of arrogance and control. POor Anne couldn't say anything without that condescending bastard diminishing her.
ALthough I am no longer reading BR, before I left I did see Joe's post about charting lunar cycles with certain posters or something- perhaps this is the perfect example of your reference to truth in humor, though I found his post anything but amusing. Women are very offended by this type of "humor", I think, because as you say, it so very often is NOT humor, but a reflection of what the person truly believes. |
