[Taking a stab at Portuguese]

Pat,

Since I'm pretty decent with Spanish and there is a strong relationship between Portuguese and Spanish, I took a stab at looking over the Telebrasilia site you posted yesterday.

The only opening link eventually took me to a fiber/cable system they are implementing. That is, fiber to the curb, then, to what they call an optical-electrical-converter to coax-cable which then runs into the home. This system looks like it will be used to support everything. TV, Computer/Internet and Telephone all on the single Coax line. I noticed other links started popping up, one called "outras technologias transporte" which takes you to an ADSL page:

telebrasilia.net.br

It looks to me that this page is saying:

Title: Other transport technologies to ???? to distance

To assist the federal district of public schools ?????.??? VIDEOREADY, Telebrasilia is (is/will be or has been) utilizing alternate methods to transport ????. one attractive alternate technology named ADSL.

(non-existent GIF image) (non-existent JPEG image)

The objective of ADSL Technology is to maximize the use of the copper facilities, enabling asymmetric broadband transmission services with a copper pair. ?????.. This system transmits or receives simultaneous high capacity digital (information?) together with traditional telephone service.

This technology transmits digital signals up to 2048Mbps with maximum reach of 4Km (=2.485mi =13,120ft) across a copper pair downstream. ????. 6MHz analog video signal, necessary to digitize and compress ??? signal across a real time decoder before the ADSL transmit loop modem. ????. at the other end the signal is decoded and converted back to a 6MHz analog video signal.

(Another page said that 50 schools would be involved in the educational TV project).

I found no reference to any vendors anywhere.

On another page services were being advertised. CABLE based I think. Interactive TV, Pay-per-view, VOD and NVOD (Near video on demand). Then they went on to say that to receive our services you will need a set-top- box.

Well this is the best I could do. Wish it was Spanish then I could claim much more accuracy. -Eric
