Tenchusatsu, Re: "I think more people use their computers to play Quake III than calculate Pi. Don't you?"

Dan3 doesn't seem to realize that overclockers are a fickle bunch. This month SuperPI may be the preferred benchmark, but next month it could be something new. I remember when that same web site used to use SiSoft's Sandra to display all their overclocking conquests. Before that, it was 3DMark 2000. Before that, it was good enough to show a screen with system information (although that became tiring once people realized that Windows Paintbrush was enough to fake the scores). SuperPI is just the benchmark of the month, and it will soon pass, but Dan3's interest in it isn't academic at all. He just revels in the fact that it is the only benchmark where AMD can claim a definitive lead over Intel's new top-of-the-line. By this time next year when Intel is farther ahead, and the rest of the overclocking world has lost interest in SuperPI, Dan3 will still be sporting it around, and campaigning for it to be the next SPEC benchmark. Mark my words. That is, unless, someone decides to optimize SuperPI for the Pentium 4. Wouldn't that be a gas if Dan3's favorite benchmark suddenly started favoring Pentium 4. <g>
